Blog 8: English Language Challenges

Hi everyone, I hope you are well, in this last blog I will talk about my experience learning English in this semester and blog writing.

First of all, I apologize for my poor attendance to classes, for me the online modality has been really complicated, besides we had a very exhausting workload, although I always try to be the most participative as possible in the classes. With respect to my experience, I must say that it was nice to practice English through interviews and readings of different topics (especially the readings helped me to improve and learn new words, along with becoming more cultured, the most that I remember is the one about the American invasion of Haití). Also, the blogs helped me to practice the redaction.

The aspects of my English that I need to improve is the speaking, I can be clear about that I want to say, but sometimes is very difficult for me to express it in a grammatically correct form and I end up speaking incorrectly, maybe whoever listens to me will understand me, but I know I said wrong what I wanted to say.

Outside the English class, I´m almost always trying to applying English, I watch series and movies spoken and subtitled in English, I listen to music and play video games with the same language, so I always try to learn new things, I hope someday I can dedicate to learn English properly, so that I can speak it fluently, and this is all, bye!

Blog 7: Changes to my study program

Hi everyone, I hope you´re all well, in this blog I will talk about certain changes that should be made to the curriculum of public administration career.

First of all, in consideration to the subjects that are taught, I think that most of them are well adapted and contribute correctly to achieve a nuanced educational formation of political and social aspects which are required for the career of public administration, along with, obviously, aspects related to the realm of public management. However, there are certain subjects and contents of these subjects that aren´t of great relevance or even null for what will be our job performance, and in general our profesion, such as some mathematics knowledge, some epistemology content, and also the free and cfg courses, which I think should be optional.

Second, about the workload and length of studies, there isn´t much I can say, because this is my first year and although I imagine how demanding the face-to-face classes must be based on my past university experience, I don't know it exactly, besides I think that the online classes are easier than the face-to-face modality, not in terms of subjects, but in the evaluation methods.

With respect to our faculty I don´t know it yet, but I have heard from students and teachers that it is very small and isolated from other faculties of the university.

Finally, in attention to the tecnology and teaching methods, I think it is good that teachers use technology to develop their classes in a better way, although it is necessary that all this is done in a face-to-face modality, although the pandemic has taught both students and teachers to adapt to new methods based on technology, the online modality isn´t enough for a complete formation.

Blog 6: Time travel to the future

Hello everyone!, I hope you are all well, in this blog I will talk about time travel to the future.

The truth is that in the current state of things I do not see a very encouraging future for the world, the environmental problems, the growing tension between the most powerful nations in the world, the multiple political conflicts that are emerging, the economic recession we are experiencing, all are factors that lead me to think that difficult times are ahead, although I hope I´m wrong.

I would like to go to chile in the year 2100 and be a spectator of the changes that the country has experienced in a whole century, will we be a plurinational country? will democracy still be the political regime? will we still be a country dependent on the extraction of resources? will Chile even exist in that era?. I would also love to see the technological advances of the world, and obviously if all the problems I mentioned at the beginning led the world to total chaos, or were solved (is the United States still the world's largest power, or are we all speaking Chinese?).

I don't think it's right for me to stay and live in that era, because it would not correspond to my time of origin and would affect the natural order of things (I think I've seen too much Rick and Morty xd).

Blog 5: My future job

Hi everyone, I hope you´re all well, in this opportunity I will talk about my job expectations for the future.

Because I am studying public administration, my future job must be related to this área, to be honest, I am not really sure in which area I will work, although I have always liked everything related to diplomacy and foreign relations, so maybe a position in the ministry of foreign affairs wouldn't be bad, it may sound difficult to get there, but dreaming is free xD.

I would love to travel a lot in my future job, if I work in foreign relations I will have to travel a lot (of course, depending on the position that I will have). If not, at least I hope to do something I really enjoy.

I would like to earn a good salary, which allows me to live comfortably, without great worries or needs, without suffering with great debts, with which I can help my family with any trouble, and which obviously allows me to satisfy my tastes and allow me certain luxuries, I am not asking for an extremely high salary because I would be dedicated to public service, whose system is generally financed by the work of the people for whom I would be working.

Blog 4: Post-Graduate Studies

Hi everyone, today I´m going to talk about postgrate studies.

I would really like to have postgraduate studies, and I hope to be able to do them as soon as I have my degree in public administration. It is always good to have a specialty, it increases knowledge and job opportunities by adding value to the curriculum.

In this moment I’m not sure in which area I will specialize, besides, the fact that realice this studies depends of many factors, even, once I get my degree, I might want to study another career.

About studying abroad, of course I would like to, even I would stay and live in the destination country if it offered me better opportunities than the ones in Chile. It would be a great opportunity to get to know new cultures, systems different from ours, and in general to increase my knowledge about my specialty and about the world in general.

Finally, I would like to study in face-to-face classes, it is much more dynamic than online classes and it gives you experience in social relations, a very important aspect that a public administration professional should have, although obviously any online specialization course is always welcome.
